Spotlight on Christian Whiticar

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND?

I was born in Germany but grew up in Canada and Denmark. I loved collecting bugs, comic books, skateboarding, playing video games and drawing monsters!

WHICH FILMS AND GAMES WERE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT GROWING UP?

Games that really caught my interest were generally the survival horrors or first person shooters. I really liked Silent Hills, Resident Evil, Counter-strike and games like Parasite Eve. I generally liked horror movies and my favourites were the first two Alien movies.

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH THE SEQUENCE GROUP?

I really liked the motion comics Sequence they were doing at the time. A friend who was working here helped me get a contract to work on Jonah hex. I’ve been with The Sequence Group ever since.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAY-TO-DAY WORK AT SEQUENCE INVOLVE?

My daily work includes lots of juggling! At Sequence the work varies a lot and our team isn't too large. Everyone has a diverse skill set – I can be working on design one minute and be working on a simulation in 3d another.

WHAT'S THE MOST CHALLENGING PROJECT YOU'VE WORKED ON AT SEQUENCE?

The most challenging was the Halo: The Fall of Reach movie. We had a lot of work to complete in a very short period of time. The crunches were more extreme than I had ever experienced. It had many challenges as we were lighting it in post with Normality and there were hundreds of shots.

WHAT'S THE SEQUENCE PROJECT YOU'RE MOST PROUD TO HAVE WORKED ON?

The projects I am most proud to have worked on are the most visually stimulating and interesting looking ones. I really liked our trailer for Bound as the art direction was very unique. I also like the motion graphics snippets of abstract work placed throughout many of the Halo pieces we have done.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A CREATIVE LOOKING TO SUCCEED IN YOUR SPECIALTY?

Just keep doing what you love and make lots of friends with the same passions. Before you know it you will be working with your friends.
